An Indian student, who participated in a 23-day-long hunger strike during the recently ended protests, slammed Indian media over labelling the demonstrators as “Pakistani agents”

Neha Bora, who was among the thousands of students who staged a demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, said that the labelling of protesters as Pakistani agents was a tactic used to suppress dissent, recalling that similar allegations had previously been made against people of Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

She noted that people kept silent on the bullets in Kashmir; now those bullets have reached Connaught Place in Delhi.

Neha said: “Today, when students are protesting for their rights, they are being called ‘Pakistani agents'”.

“Now people have realised that earlier allegations were false,” she added.

Neha Bora’s remarks came after Gen-Z protesters called off the demonstration, following the education minister’s resignation and the government’s promise to fulfil all their demands.

The protesters’ other demands included compensation for those affected by examination irregularities and for legal cases against protesters to be dropped, according to CJP spokesman Ashutosh Ranka.

Subsequently, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the creation of a task force headed by tech entrepreneur Nandan Nilekani to overhaul India’s examination system, following days of youth protests about exam paper leaks.
